State Opera – Varna

Varna Opera was registered on April 6, 1947 and was officially opened on August 1 of the same year. The first opera is “Sister Bride” by B. Smetana.

Nowadays, the repertoire in style and genre is rich and varied. It covers a significant part of the heritage of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as contemporary titles.

On the scene of the Varna Opera Theater have performed famous opera artists such as Gena Dimitrova, Nikolay Gyaurov, Rayna Kabaivanska, Nikola Giuzelev, Anna Tomova-Sintova, Maria Corelli, Peter Glossop, Elena Nikolay, Ava Jun Cooper, Zinaida Palli, Nikolai Herleja, Elena Obrazcova , Vladimir Atlantov, Emil Ivanov, Vesselina Katsarova, Galina Savova, Ivan Konsulov, Kaludi Kaludov, Boyko Tsvetanov, Orlin Anastasov, Ventseslav Anastasov, Nadia Krasteva and others.

Since 1999 the Varna Opera has united with the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra and continues its activity as a state cultural institute, under the new name Opera-Philharmonic Society of Varna.

In 2010, the Ministry of Culture merged the Opera and Philharmonic Society of Varna with the Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theater in the Theater and Music Production Center in Varna.

Drama Theater “Stoyan Bachvarov”

Drama Theater “Stoyan Bachvarov” is a repertory theater. For nine decades, he has been conducting a successful dialogue with his audience, looking for new forms of theatrical language in the performance of plays from both the world and Bulgarian classics, as well as from the contemporary dramaturgy. Every creative season “Stoyan Bachvarov” has 14 titles, 6 of which premieres, each month welcoming 3500 spectators in their salons.

The Varna Theater hosts the Varna Summer International Theater Festival, which takes place every year between 1 and 12 June.

Festival and Congress Center

The Festival and Congress Center in Varna was established in 1986. It is situated in the most attractive spot in the very center of the city, right in front of the main entrance of the Sea Garden and close to the beach where the flow of people is always huge.

Since its inception, the FCC has become the center of the most prestigious events in the field of art and culture: the Golden Globe Festival, the International Film Festival, the Sofia Film Fest, the Varna Summer International Music Festival, May Choir Competition, International Ballet Competition – Varna, International Music Festival “Sea and Memories”.

In 1993, the FCC initiated and organized the International Film Festival “Love is Madness”, which for many years has been the only international film festival with a competition program for feature films held in our country. Today it is one of the business cards of Bulgarian culture worldwide.

Palace of Culture and Sports

The Palace of Culture and Sports is a multifunctional complex, located in a central location in the Sea Capital of Bulgaria. It is one of the symbols of the city and over the years it has become a point of holding cultural events, sports events, exhibitions and conferences.

The construction of the building started on 28.10.1966 and officially ended on 17.09.1968 with the 56th session of the International Organization of Dentists.

The building impresses with innovative and cutting-edge architectural craftsmanship. The multifunctional complex consists of a main hall, corridors, meeting and training halls, dressing rooms and commutator cabins.

Summer theater

This is an open summer stage, located in the central part of the Sea Garden, in the immediate vicinity of the Renaissance Alley. Known among Varna artists as the Summer Theater, this is the center of cultural life in the city.

Since its construction in 1957, the Summer Theater has been used for an open summer stage, where theater and opera performances are being exported. The venue is also the scene of the International Ballet Competition and many other national and international festivals.
